A 2016 UK £2 coin issued by The Royal Mint to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare, one of Britain’s most celebrated playwrights.
The reverse features a crown pierced by a dagger, representing the themes of power, conflict and betrayal found throughout Shakespeare’s history plays. The edge inscription reads “THE HOLLOW CROWN”.
