KING GEORGE III GOLD HALF GUINEA COIN 1779 ALMOST VERY FINE
King George III gold half Guinea coin 1779.
In the region of West Africa where much of the Gold for the coins originally came from the Half Guinea took its name.
It is almost exactly 1/4 oz fine Gold.
The Guinea, that was worth 21 shillings was eventually replaced by the smaller Gold Sovereign that was worth 20 shillings in 1817.
