2016 Shakespeare’s Tragedies £2 Circulated Coin

A 2016 UK £2 coin issued by The Royal Mint to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare, one of Britain’s most celebrated playwrights.

The reverse features a skull and rose design inspired by Shakespeare’s famous tragedies, particularly Hamlet. The edge inscription reads “WHAT A PIECE OF WORK IS A MAN”, a well-known quotation from the play.

One of three Shakespeare-themed £2 coins released in 2016, this distinctive literary commemorative issue is a great addition to a collection of modern British coins or Shakespeare memorabilia.
