A 2013 UK £2 coin issued by The Royal Mint to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the first gold guinea, introduced during the reign of King Charles II in 1663.
The reverse, designed by Anthony Smith, features a crowned shield inspired by the Royal Arms found on the famous “Spade Guinea” coins of George III. It is surrounded by the inscription “ANNIVERSARY OF THE GOLDEN GUINEA 2013”. The edge inscription reads “WHAT IS A GUINEA? ’TIS A SPLENDID THING”.
