2005 Samuel Johnson’s Dictionary 50p Circulated Coin

A 2005 UK 50p coin issued by The Royal Mint to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the publication of Samuel Johnson’s A Dictionary of the English Language in 1755.

The reverse features dictionary-style definitions of the words “fifty” and “pence”, reflecting the format of Johnson’s celebrated work. His dictionary was one of the most influential publications in the history of the English language.
