The 1900 Queen Victoria Veil Head Halfcrown is an attractive late Victorian silver coin, struck during the final years of Queen Victoria’s reign. Featuring the elegant Old Head (Veiled Head) portrait, this historic halfcrown is a popular choice among collectors of British milled coinage and Victorian silver.
The obverse displays the distinguished Veil Head portrait of Queen Victoria by Sir Thomas Brock, depicting the Queen wearing a widow’s veil and the small diamond crown. Introduced in 1893, this portrait symbolises the dignity and longevity of her reign. The reverse features the classic crowned quartered shield with the Royal Arms, designed by Sir Edward Poynter, surrounded by a garter bearing the motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE.
Struck in sterling silver (.925 fine), the halfcrown weighs approximately 14.14g and measures 32.3mm in diameter. The 1900 issue represents one of the final circulating halfcrowns produced before the accession of King Edward VII in 1901, adding to its historical appeal.
This example is graded About Extremely Fine (AEF) and benefits from attractive natural toning, with only light wear to the highest points and excellent remaining detail.
